春节你在长肉我在一路“涨知识”

2019年,让我们一起定个小目标:体重控制在两位数,读专业类相关书籍100本,英语学习打卡200+天,Emmmmmm,挣一个亿...

梦想如此美好,

以至于忘记了去年的目标完成率。

梦想和现实之间只差一个做到

比如,春节的减肥计划与美食诱惑;

比如,本想煮茶后捧起一本书

结果薯条和Ipad莫名替身

比如,去健身房的路上

不小心拐进一家甜品店

比如,约好一起运动的朋友

决定新年就得放开吃喝,要减肥年后再说

曾经的时间塑造了我们现在的样子,

现在的时间正在创造你未来的样子

新春在即,和小耐姐一起补充精神食粮吧,

2019我们越来越聪慧,越来越优雅越来越有内涵。

Chinese New Year is around the corner and for millions of people in China and across the world, it's a time for spending time with family and their loved ones. For me, Chinese New Year is often a time to rest and unwind – in other words, eating and sleeping! But of course, Chinese New Year means much more than that and in this episode, we'll be looking at some of the origins of this – the most important time in the Chinese calendar.

The Origin of Chinese New Year

The Chinese New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the Beginning of Spring (the first of the twenty-four terms in coordination with the changes of Nature). Its origin is too old to be traced but several explanations exist. All agree, however, that the word Nian, which in modern Chinese simply means "year", was originally the name of a monster beast that started to prey on people the night before the beginning of each new year.

One legend goes that the beast Nian had a very big mouth that would swallow a great many people with one bite. People were very scared. One day, an old man came to their rescue, offering to subdue Nian. To Nian he said, "I hear say that you are very capable, but can you swallow the other beasts of prey on earth instead of people who are by no means worthy opponents?" So, Nian swallowed many of the beasts of prey on earth that harassed people and their domestic animals.

After that, the old man disappeared riding the beast Nian. He turned out to be an immortal god. Now that Nian was gone and other beasts of prey were scared into forests, people began to enjoy their peaceful life again. Before leaving, the old man told people that in case Nian was ever to return, to put up red paper decorations on their windows and doors at each year's end to scare away Nian as red was the color the beast feared the most.

From then on, the tradition of observing the conquest of Nian is carried on from generation to generation. The term "Guo Nian", which may mean "Survive the Nian" becomes today "Celebrate the (New) Year" as the word "guo" in Chinese has the meaning of both "pass-over" and "observe". The custom of putting up red paper and firing fire-crackers to scare away Nian should it ever return still continues to this day. And of course it adds to the colour and excitement of the celebration.
